PAMSS Lunch and Learn: Contemporary Multidisciplinary Peer Review - 1 NAMSS CE

Program Summary:
The majority of hospitals in America are still conducting "Specialty-Specific" Peer Review where the same specialty reviews its own quality. The challenge with this traditional approach to Peer Review is that members of the same specialty are either in the same group or competitors and it is tough to be objective. Contemporary Multidisciplinary Peer Review establishes one multidisciplinary group of physicians that are able to conduct objective Peer Review across the organization for all specialties. This program will explain:
- How to set up a Multidisciplinary Peer Review committee
- What guidelines are needed to staff the committee
- What core specialties are typically needed
- How to screen out simple "Rule" violations that don't need a physician review
- How to identify serious quality issues that do need a physician review
- How to establish a fair scoring system
- How to correlate your Peer Review process with a High Reliability program
- How to establish a more collegial approach to Peer Review
Objectives:
- Discuss the challenges of "Specialty Specific" Peer Review & the advantages of Contemporary Multidisciplinary Peer Review
- Learn the difference between simple rule violations and complex quality issues and how to approach each
- Learn how to staff a Multidisciplinary Peer Review Committee
- Learn about the approach to scoring Peer Review cases
- Learn about the various options that the committee has with regard to remediation for specific quality concerns
- Learn the difference between what is and what isn't reportable
Presenters:
